Seafood Boil
The Seafood Boil is a favorite south Louisiana treat. Fresh shrimp, crabs, and crawfish, or any combination, simple and unadorned, piled high and steaming on a newspaper-covered table are the highlight of this event. There are many activities that accompany such an affair: Crawfish peeling, eating and cooking contests whet the appetites of young and old alike. The crawfish and crab races are a popular custom which yields squeals of delight as competitors cheer on the first creature to crawl slowly backwards to the finish line

Boucherie-Cochon de Lait
The Boucherie-Cochon de Lait is South Louisiana's version of the Hawaiian Luau. In fact, we are not quite sure which came first…the Boucherie or the Luau. Boucherie literally means butchering. In the past, the entire community gathered for the day to share in the work necessary to harvest the new crop. There is always a wonderful picnic, the Cochon de Lait, featuring fresh pork and all the trimmings.
